SNL Recap: Elton John and the Knights of the Realm
Last night, Elton John hosted Saturday Night Live for his first time, surprisingly, although he has appeared as a musical guest before. Elton John did an amazing job as host and he was hysterical whenever he appeared, but otherwise SNL has gone back to being terrible. By the middle of the episode, I found myself asking: "Am I still watching this? Why?" The highlight of the show was Elton John's monologue in the beginning. Seriously, what is the mean age of SNL writers? Is it 17? The show is so inconsistent and the humor so low brow and superficial that even if you are in your twenties you find yourself thinking that you are too old to be watching it. Granted, I admit that I was a fan of MadTV, and that show was the epitome of slapstick and low brow comedy, but the actors and comedians on MadTV were so good at that type of comedy that one overlooked the silliness of the show. SNL, however, has talents like Kristen Wiig and even (gasp) Kenan Thompson and, frankly, the talent of these comedians is wasted by the ridiculous level of the humor. Anyway, congrats Elton John and David Furnish on your new son. Glad to hear that you aren't trying to nurse the little tyke yourselves!
