Serena Williams Hospitalized Emergently For Pulmonary Embolism

Tennis great Serena Williams has been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical center in Los Angeles due to a Pulmonary Embolism (PE), according to the HuffPo.  She had been immobilized due to a foot injury and her cast was removed only a few days ago.  For those out there unfamiliar with PEs, they are blood clots in the lung caused by clots traveling up from an appendage (usually a leg).  They typically occur in people that have been immobile for prolonged periods of time, like after surgery or long plane rides.  Certain medical conditions can also predispose individuals to developing clots in the legs and PEs.  We wish Serena a quick recovery.
