Beverly Hills Fabulous Episode 9 Recap: The Lap Band Question

It makes perfect sense to me that someone working at an upscale hair salon should spend most of the work day in the studio recording a new track or bowling with a love interest... at least if we're talking about Beverly Hills Fabulous.  I'm not really sure why I'm still watching this show (which I say every week), but I keep coming back for more.  The highlight of this week's episode was big girl Lolita going on a blind date with a doctor and being asked if she's ever thought about lap band surgery.  Lolita is a proud "big girl", but she wasn't expecting that question and it leads to a crisis for her.  Meanwhile Sean goes to the studio with one of the hottest producers in L.A. and records a new song, after meeting a contact at the salon.  Will Lolita pursue the lap band option?  We'll have to tune in next week to find out.

To lap band or not to lap band?  That is the question

Beverly Hills Fabulous Episode 8 Recap: The Beyonce Hair

I am more than a little embarrassed that I'm still covering this show on this blog, but I'm basically covering ever reality show that's on VH1, so...  Amidst allegations that the show is scripted, this week's episode involved an apparently cursed batch of hair (weave) that supposedly was taken out of Beyonce's big ole head.  Right after the hair arrived in the shop, hair stylist Lolita touched it whilst in the middle of starting work on a client's head.  The client flips out that her stylist did not wash her hands after touching the "used" weave and Lolita kicks her out of the salon.  Meanwhile, the weave goes missing and it turns out that the secretary accidentally gave it to Elgin to put into his own client's head.  When he finds out (after Lolita goes looking for the hair), Elgin is furious at Lolita (when it was really the secretary's fault) and forces her to apologize to the client.  When Lolita demands to have the hair back so she can sell it on Ebay, Elgin dismisses her request, leaving Lolita fuming.  Just another day at the Elgin Charles Salon in Beverly Hills.

Elgin's client was satisfied with Beyonce's used weave in her head.  She probably wants to become "Sasha Fierce"

Beverly Hills Fabulous Episode 7 Recap: The Blind Date

Yes, I'm obviously still watching this show.  Monday's episode was a hot mess, just like every other episode of this show that has aired so far, but it was definitely entertaining.  With Elgin doing all that he can to expand his business, he has decided to add two new hairstylists to the shop: a barber named Esau and a young (and very blond) "Jessica Simpson"-type named Lauren.  Lauren, who is white, immediately causes controversy in what was typically a Black salon.  Sean takes an immediate disliking to her, in part because Elgin has placed her in the front chair of the salon.  Meanwhile, one of Sean's clients, a matchmaker, sets him up on a date with someone named Brad.  It was going well until the very end of the date, when Brad wanted to split the cost of the champagne, which Sean refused to do since he felt that he had been asked out on the date.  When Brad basically says that he doesn't think Sean is worth it, Sean leaves and forms sort of a connection with Lauren, who agrees that Brad should have footed the bill for the date.  Afterwards, Elgin essentially fires Sean's assistant Sireeta (sp?) after she gets into a big fight with Lolita.  Elgin leaves the door open for her to come back, however.  All in all, an interesting episode.

Beverly Hills Fabulous Episode 5 Recap: Lolita Meets A Mandingo and Sean Gets Tased

As much as I swore that I would not watch this show anymore, let alone do a blog post about another episode, Tuesday's episode of Beverly Hills Fabulous was so good that not only did I have to watch it again, but I also talked myself into blogging about it.  In this episode, the stylists at Elgin Charles's Beverly Hills salon flew to Miami for a Hair Battle against a local Miami salon that called them out in Twitter bitch fest.  When they arrive in Miami, Sean goes out on a blind date with a humongous professional wrestler named Orlando.  Then, Elgin meets with Shaunie O'Neal (Shaq's ex-wife) who talks him into meeting with a real estate broker about possibly opening a new salon in Miami.  Meanwhile, Lolita and Katrina are hanging out at the pool when these huge brothers walk up to them, one of whom tells Lolita that he is a "Mandingo" which gets her all hot and bothered to the point where she is almost stuttering and looking away.  One of the other mandingos pushes Katrina in the pool getting her weave wet, which you do not do to a black woman.  Ever.  Meanwhile, Sean is trying to find out where exactly in the convention center the Hair Battle is when these hoodrats start talking trash to him, about how he thinks he's all that and such.  Long story short, Sean gets into a big fight with these three women (they actually might have been drag queens, I'm not sure) and security is called, but that doesn't stop the women from trying to shock Sean with a taser.  After that, the team seems to think that they are not ready for this Hair Battle, but they manage to pull it together with this truly incredible show (basically a dance/hair extravaganza on stage viewed by guest judges) and they are declared the winners of the Hair Battle.  Honestly, the episode was the most entertaining thing that I had seen in a long, long time.

What Is This Disaster Called Beverly Hills Fabulous?

I had to say that.  Actually this show is hysterical, even though the whole time you're thinking "Why do these people have a show?"  Seriously, where is my show?  Basically, Beverly Hills Fabulous, now on its third episode, revolves around Elgin Charles who owns a fashionable hair salon in Beverly Hills.  His hairdressers include Sean, a flamboyant young man with blond hair (see picture below), the big and beautiful Lolita, and others.  In this episode, Elgin goes to a community center to inspire the young kids with his story of his journey from the backwoods in Texas to find success and he leaves Sean in charge of the salon while he's gone.  While Elgin is gone, the health inspector arrives unannounced to inspect the boutique.  Meanwhile one of Lolita's clients (a bride to be) has arrived with her entourage and they are drinking champagne and making a mess in the adjacent salon.  Sean runs over to tell them to stop and to clean the place, and Elgin arrives just in the nick of time to supervise.  In the end, the health inspector announces that the salon has passed inspection, but Sean is furious that Elgin showed up because he sees this as an indication that Elgin doesn't trust him.  They get into a huge fight and it looks like Elgin's initial happiness that Sean saved the day will be superseded by his fury and Sean's "insubordination".  Sean storms out.  The end.  Honestly, this show is better than "Love and Hip Hop" because the characters are more interesting, but I have a feeling that this show will fizzle out pretty quickly.  I guess anyone can get a "reality" show these days.
