Trailer For Spartacus: Vengeance Is Here!

If you liked Spartacus: Blood and Sand (which I am sort of on the fence about: I ended up selling my DVD of that season) then you should love Starz's next installment: Spartacus: Vengeance.  The lead actor is out because of lymphoma, but a capable new actor has stepped into his place.  Enjoy.

Gay Sexual Tension On TNT's Dallas

The rumors are true.  Cable network TNT has decided to revive 70s hit Dallas, minus the feathered hair, power suits, hormone pills, and behind the scenes sexual innuendo.  The revival of the drama features a cast infused with youth: two former stars of Desperate Housewives are among the cast, Jesse Metcalfe and Josh Henderson, which can either be a coincidence or some sort of contractual obligation.  If you are curious about the gay reference in the title to this post just watch how close these two get in the promo.  Most importantly of all, half-Brazilian babe Jordana Brewster has a starring role.  That's surprising since Jordana, to me at least, is a little too good for a random cable television show, even if it is Dallas.  Unfortunately, the show is not slated to drop until next summer, so those of us planning on watching have a long time to wait!

Mark Paul Gosselaar Stars In Yet Another Legal Drama

Franklin and Bash also stars Clueless's Breckin Meyer.

I have to say, I have had it up to here [demonstrates the level of my forehead with my hand] with medical shows and legal dramas.  And it seems that Saved by the Bell's Mark Gosselaar has landed the starring role in yet another legal drama called Franklin and Bash, which actually has already aired, garnering 2.75 million viewers for its premiere episode.  I don't know if the network created the show to compensate Gosselaar for the cancellation of Raising the Bar, his previous legal drama, or if this is just another attempt to recreate the success of the older more successful dramas (like The Practice, for example), but this whole schtick is getting old.  According to the press releases for Franklin and Bash, the show is supposed to be a comedic take on a show type that is usually handled humorlessly, but it's still another legal drama in my book.  All that being said, I have to admit that it is nice to have Gosselaar back on a show.  He has not been able to recreate the success he achieved as a child on Saved by the Bell, and part of this has to do (I think) with difficulty in breaking his iconic image as the mischievous blond high schooler that many of us grew up with.  He tried to break this image by dying his hair a darker shade in NYPD Blue, and then by growing it long and straggly for Raising the Bar in 2009.  But Gosselaar's face is so distinctive that none of this seemed to get him anywhere.  In any event, we'll see how Franklin and Bash does ratings-wise, but the show doesn't exactly seem to be breaking any molds.

At least he cut his hair for his new show.  These long curling-ironed tresses were a horrible idea IMHO.
